ドア・オブ・ナイトと名付けられた非対称ツインフィンは、ジョーダン・クドラと南カリフォルニアでほぼ1年を費やし、その後ジミー・サーフとケール・カダムと共にノースショアでさらに深く探求した結果生まれたものです。

目指したのは、ひっくり返した時にフィンが2枚しかないことに気づき、人々を驚かせるサーフボードを作ることでした。パフォーマンス、レール長、ロッカー、ノーズ形状は、スラスタータイプのショートボードを彷彿とさせますが、センターフィンを省くことで抵抗が軽減されている点が大きな違いです。安定性は、深いシングルコンケーブにアシンメトリーのガターチャンネルを配置することで補われています。足をしっかりと安定させるために設計された、長く狭く曲線的なアウトラインは、ハイパフォーマンスなサーフィンに最適なショートボードとなっています。

このサーフボードがどんな場所にたどり着き、どんなサーフィンができるのか、とても楽しみです。より良い波に挑めるように作られていますが、想定される波のサイズに合わせて、希望の長さを調整することも可能です。様々な長さでオーダーできる数少ないモデルの一つで、波の高さに合わせて2～3枚のボードをオーダーされる方も多いです。

このボードは、当初Second Breakfastで目指していた目標を達成しています。Second Breakfastは、汎用性は低く、小波でのサーフィンに適したボードとなり、短めの長さで乗ることを想定されています。Door of NightはOrdainerの骨格を体現しながらも、ラディカルなサーフィンを念頭に置いて設計されています。

小波から超大波まで

The asymmetrical twin fin named Door of Night was the product of working with Jordan Kudla for the better part of a year around Southern California and then further diving in with Jimmy Surf and Kale Cadam on the North Shore. 

The goal was to build a surfboard that surprised people when it is flipped over when they realize it only has two fins. Performance, rail length, rocker, and nose shape give the first impression of a thruster shortboard, but the main difference being less drag with the omission of a center fin. Stability is compensated for through use of an asymmetrical gutter channel set in a deep single concave. A long, narrow, and curvy outline meant for keeping your feet planted make this a shortboard that has a liking for high performing surfing. 

I have a high sense of excitement for where this surfboard has landed and the type of surfing that is the result. Built for better waves, but the size of surf intended can be geared towards the length desired. One of the few models that can be ordered at a variety of lengths with many people ordering 2-3 boards for different wave heights.

​This board accomplishes the goal that was initially intended for the Second Breakfast. The Second Breakfast became a board better in small surf, not as versatile, and meant to be ridden on the shorter length. The Door of Night embodies the bones of the Ordainer, but with radical surfing in mind.
